Team USA defeated the Australia Boomers in an exhibition game prior to the FIBA Basketball World Cup on Thursday, Aug. 22, 102-86, at Marvel Stadium in Docklands, Australia.
Marvel Stadium normally hosts soccer, cricket, and Australian football, but it transformed itself into a basketball stadium which drew a crowd of 51,218 — the largest crowd to ever watch a basketball game in Australia — to accommodate the World Cup exhibition.
Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker led Team USA with 23 points and Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner added 15 points and 14 rebounds in the win. For the Aussies, San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills and NBL star Chris Goulding scored 19 points a piece.
Team USA’s victory came a week after they defeated Spain in their first exhibition game of the summer. USA is now 2-0 under head coach Gregg Popovich.
