Who other than Nick “Swaggy P” Young would tell reporters that he had a dream that five-time NBA champion and defensive maestro Dennis Rodman was his inspiration in arguably the biggest game of his career?
The night before Golden State’s win-or-go-home Game 6 against Houston in which they clawed back to blow them out 115-86 forcing a Game 7, Young said Rodman came to him in a dream and said he needed to “play a little defense.” A “little defense” from Young, indeed—his effort on defense was huge in Game 6.

“Dennis Rodman came in my dream last night, and I was wondering why he came in my dream,” Young told reporters. “He had the purple hair, all kind of stuff. He told me ‘tomorrow you’re going to play a little defense.’ I was like ‘nah that’s not my game Dennis Rodman, why you in my dream?’ But it just so happened I played a little defense.’”
Young, who is primarily known as an offensive force when he’s feeling his jumper, played great help defense in the 16 minutes he was on the court in Game 6. When Young had to switch on James Harden, he held his own by keeping Harden in front of him and cutting off driving lanes effectively.
Game 7 is Monday. If Golden State loses, it would be the first time they hadn’t reached the NBA Finals since 2014.
“Swaggy P” better hope Rodman comes in his dream again prior to Game 7.
